The latest jailbreaking tools offered by the iPhone Dev Team take advantage of the way the iOS Safari browser loads PDF files from Web sites. The security slip up allowed the Dev Team to hack its way into the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. iPhone users can jailbreak their devices directly through the browser. Apple says the problem will be fixed soon.

An Apple spokesperson said to Cnet, "We're aware of this reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update."

The company didn't spell out when the software update would be offered to iOS device users. Apple has already provided iOS 4.1 and the iOS 4.1 SDK (in beta form) to iPhone developers. Apple recently released the third beta of iOS 4.1. It is possible that iOS 4.1 will include the security update. Apple has not confirmed that.

The current official version of iPhone software is 4.0.1, which was distributed to change the way the iPhone calculates signal strength.

Security experts have expressed concern over the issue, and the German government actually warned its citizens about the flaw.

Once jailbroken, iPhone users can install unapproved third-party applications. The iPhone Dev Team also recently released a new version of ultrasn0w, which will unlock the iPhone and make it usable on wireless networks other than AT&T's.

The U.S. government recently gave jailbreakers the legal green light to take control of their iPhone's software, but Apple insists that jailbreaking will void the iPhone's warranty. In other words, jailbreak at your own risk.
