Google Inc. has launched this week a separate search service for people and information in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The site searches the databases of a variety of organizations for information on friends or family who may have been affected by the hurricane, the Mountain View, Calif., company said. The organizations include the American Red Cross, Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc.

In addition, Google has created a special search index for the site to return keyword results only from Katrina-related web pages.
