Vendors ready products to solve the problem of managing multiple systems
Companies that want to secure their networks and applications have had to deploy and manage a slew of security tools, including firewall, intrusion-detection, antivirus, and so-called "intrusion-prevention" capabilities. That's about to change, security vendors say.
Network Associates Inc. next month will release McAfee Entercept Desktop, intrusion-prevention technology that watches for malicious behavior from applications or hackers and attempts to block it before damage is done. In about 18 months, McAfee's intrusion-prevention, antivirus, and desktop-firewall software will be integrated into a single agent designed to protect the desktop from most types of attacks, says Ryan McGee, director of product marketing for McAfee security products. Pricing information isn't yet available.
Internet Security Systems Inc. plans to help solve the problem of managing multiple security apps with its Proventia line of security appliances. ISS next month will make available its Proventia M50, which will include antivirus, firewall, VPN, and intrusion-detection and -prevention capabilities.
