Appliance is designed to provide low-cost data protection.
Many companies put off data backup and recovery because it's complicated and costly. Such efforts often require additional systems, software, and IT staff.
Intradyn Inc. this week will introduce RocketVault version 2, an appliance that's designed to provide simplified backup and recovery. A standalone RocketVault is available for about $3,000, which puts it in the purchasing reach of smaller, budget-strapped companies.
A wizard interface called Hot Start allows the system to process information within minutes, a job that can take several hours with some competitive systems. RocketVault version 2 can back up information to remote sites and supports multiple file systems.
The upgraded RocketVault appliance could set a new bar for low-priced backup and recovery, says Mike Karp, an analyst at IT market-research firm Enterprise Management Associates. "In theory," he says, "other vendors could provide a similar appliance, but they tend to offer systems for four and five times the price."
