In the wake of September's terrorist attacks, millions of Americans turned to the Internet for news and information. Many of them took action, claiming domain names for Web sites where they could share their thoughts.
Domain-name registrar Bulk Register.com received 200 attack-related registrations in the 20 minutes after the attacks. Users snatched up names such as wtcsurvivors.com, osama-bin-laden.org, freedom willprevail.com, and bombafghanistan.com.
Many of the domains have yet to post working Web sites. But some have news, inspirational messages, links to the Red Cross, and message boards where users can discuss the attacks. Others are home to stores that sell flags, or in the case of 911catastrophe .com, a black page with the simple legend, "God Bless America."
