McAfee.com is developing security services for its home and small-office customers that are based on Web services. McAfee.com also has released a new software application, SecurityCenter, which is critical to its Grid Security Services.

The upcoming security services, which will incorporate distributed computing and XML, will be free to users of McAfee.com's managed privacy, antivirus, and personal firewall services, says CEO Srivats Sampath. By signing up for the security services, customers will become a data-sharing point on the grid, which will be in constant communication with McAfee.com.

The SecurityCenter software will give users an overview of their security posture based on security events occurring throughout the grid. Security alerts will be sent through SecurityCenter and Microsoft's .Net Alerts.
