The processing power of 1.35 million idle home PCs combined to do in 24 days what previously would have taken years. They looked at 3.5 billion drugs and identified 300,000 that might be used to treat anthrax. The project was led by Oxford University and completed last month.
Says David Wilson, VP of marketing for project member United Devices, "People in the life sciences ... would be blown away by the speed at which we got it done."
