Despite the tight economy, belt tightening is not top of mind for midsize businesses. Rather, security is what's keeping IT decision makers awake at night. And, few of them are happy about how their company is using IT to achieve business goals.The findings of security concerns and IT disgruntlement come courtesy of a survey released by the Midmarket Group of Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions. The survey of 200 U.S. companies, conducted in April (when the economic outlook wasn't exactly rosy, but different than today), gathered responses from companies with annual sales of less than $100 million up to more than $1 billion (a broad target).
Among the findings (in descending order):
81% are not pleased with how their company uses IT to "address business priorities"
80% rate security as a top business issue
78% rate security as an important businesses issue
69% rate cost cutting as a top business issue
64% rate improving customer server as a top concern
61% plan to increase IT spending in the coming year
59% look within their organization for input about strategy and tactics
58% percent believe Fortune 500 companies have an advantage in how they use technology to grow
54% are confident that they can level the playing field with larger competitors
52% believe IT consultants and providers could improve their solutions and costs
44% believe IT consultants and providers could improve their technical knowledge
40% IT consultants and providers could improve their understanding of business issues
40% inform their strategy and tactics with online research online
32% are satisfied with how their company is addressing security concerns
29% look to IT consultants for advice on strategy and tactics
19% are satisfied with how their company uses IT to "address business priorities"
10% expect budget cuts in the coming year
