Ecora Software this week introduced a patch-management application for Microsoft software based on freeware Ecora introduced last year.

Ecora Patch Manager automatically discovers, analyzes, and deploys security patches for workstations and servers from an administrator's desktop. It supports Windows NT/2000/XP, Internet Explorer, Exchange, Internet Information Server, Media Player, Office, Outlook, SQL Server, and other Microsoft software. Cross-platform support, beginning with Unix and Novell, is due later this year.

The software alerts administrators and links them to the latest service packs, hot fixes, and relevant vendor resources. Installation can be either immediate or scheduled, and it pushes patches to servers and workstations automatically, eliminating the time and resource drain of manually updating individual machines.

The software is sold by subscription on a per-node basis with volume and multiyear discounts available. Pricing starts at $500.

The free version of the product is in use in 5,000 organizations.
