BMC Software plans to announce integration tools that will give customers the ability to report and analyze activity between the mainframe and distributed environments.
BMC Software Inc. plans to announce later this week integration tools that will give customers the ability to report and analyze activity between the mainframe and distributed environments.
The software tools, which are part of the Houston company's Business Service Management initiative, will be demonstrated at the company's BSM Executive Event in New York on Thursday. The new software ties together three BMC products: Service Impact Manager, Mainview for mainframe management and SmartDBA for data management.
Integrating the software enables customers to perform business-impact reporting and analysis on mainframe processes, linking the activity to the overall IT environment in order to help administrators meet service-level objectives, company officials said.
"It is clear that any solution that claims to manage business services from an IT point of view has a tremendous gap if it ignores the mainframe platform," Bill Miller, vice president and general manager of BMC mainframe solutions, said in a statement. "A key advantage of our BSM strategy is that it spans both distributed and mainframe resources, working together across the enterprise."
The two new tools, BMC Impact Integration for Mainview and for SmartDBA, feed data into SIM, which provides reports and a web-based dashboard that shows executives the business effect of IT problems.
In addition, the company plans to introduce on Thursday a new tool called SmartDBA Performance for IBM's DB2. The new product for database performance management is also integrated with SIM.
The Mainview integration tool will be available early next month, with SmartDBA integration expected in several weeks.
