The company has launched a new version of CA Recovery Management, which includes modules for ARCserve Backup and two disaster recovery/CDP products. The newest version of ARCserve Backup, CA's backup automation software, ships today. It sports a new centralized management console to make local and remote backups easier. It also has upgrades for virtualized environments, including integration with VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB). VCB saves organizations from loading backup agents on each virtual machine. Instead, VM backups are sent to a proxy server, and the backup software works with the proxy server to move images to the backup environment.
The company also has added support for AES 256-bit encryption, and the software can encrypt data as it moves from disk to tape.
CA also has upgraded CA XOsoft Replication and CA XOsoft High Availability. XOsoft Replication is a real-time continuous data protection (CDP) software. XOsoft High Availability performs near-real-time fail-over and restoration of data. Both components are expected to ship in the coming weeks.
These modules also come with a centralized management front end. Administrators also can allow users to recover their own files and e-mails. CDP repository makes finding information faster and easier, saves time, and reduces administrative burden by allowing end-users to recover their own data and e-mail messages.
CA's revamped product line has its hands full. Symantec's Backup Exec rules the roost, and Microsoft is making inroads with its Windows-centric, price-competitive Data Protection Manager product line.
