QuickTake

Cognos and Composite announced a strategic partnership, wherein Cognos has made a minority investment into Composite and is embedding the EII technology from Composite Information Server into all future versions of Cognos ReportNet. This announcement is another significant move in the BI market, as Cognos now joins Actuate and Siebel with having EII technology embedded into their BI platforms. BusinessObjects (who has partnered with Attunity and MetaMatrix), Hyperion, MicroStrategy, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP. and SAS are all without a direct or obvious BI Platform and EII strategy. The BI market has moved toward embracing an on-demand access to federated information for providing more flexibility in information access. Ventana Research believes Cognos has now raised the bar by including EII at no charge to Cognos ReportNet customers. Ventana Research believes EII is an integral part of an integration management strategy and is becoming increasingly more important to organizations looking to gain access to data anywhere in their organization.
