Assisted by IBM and lagging behind rivals Hyperion and Business Objects, Cognos has released a version of its ReportNet enterprise-reporting platform that's compatible with Linux. RedHat and Cognos will jointly market ReportNet.

MySQL Might Have Jumped the Gun.

MySQL has announced that its version 4.1 database is production-ready for large-scale enterprise applications. It has improved client/server communication, querying capabilities, security, and tools for installation and configuration. And it now supports Unicode and geographic data, too. But analysts counter that without support for stored procedures and triggers, it's not ready for the big time. MySQL says those capabilities will be in release 5.0 early next year.
