Business intelligence firm MicroStrategy will offer its software on Unix from HP, rounding out its availability on the predominant Unix platforms, the company said Tuesday.

MicroStrategy plans to port to the HP-UX 11i operating system on HP Integrity servers, starting in the second half of this year. Integrity servers are built on an Intel Itanium 2 processor-based architecture and possess 64-bit processing power.

"With data volumes growing into the high terabytes, 64-bit architecture is becoming essential to large-scale deployments," Melissa Laird, general manager of Intel's Software Enabling Division, said in a statement.

MicroStrategy hopes the 64-bit architecture will attract customers seeking improved query performance for big volumes of data. "It also makes it easier for companies to support their increasing user populations and their numerous new reporting, analysis and monitoring applications," the company said.

MicroStrategy is already available on Unix platforms from IBM and Sun.
