Business intelligence software maker MicroStrategy Inc. on Tuesday said it has formed an alliance with MapInfo Corp. to use the latter company's location-intelligence software in its products.

MapInfo's geographic querying and visualization capabilities have been integrated into MicroStrategy's BI platform, enabling customers to analyze corporate data based on geographic locations. The added capabilities could help companies, for example, discover customer-related trends in particular regions.

By adding location intelligence to its platform, McLean, Va.-based, MicroStrategy believes it can expand its overall market reach, "ultimately strengthening our leadership position in the business-intelligence space," Sanju Bansal, chief operating officer for MicroStrategy, said in a statement.

MapInfo is headquartered in Troy, N.Y.
