Access to 'up-to-date' or 'instant' information is the top benefit associated with corporate dashboards, according to a market survey, conducted on behalf of Noetix by Riley Research Associates Noetix Corp.

Noetix is a software maker whose products generates business intelligence content from enterprise applications. The research firm surveyed more than 50 top-level executives and IT managers working at businesses with revenues between $100 million and $1 billion.

According to survey, participants also named 'one-screen information' and 'information tracking' as top beneficial features. These were followed by 'problem identification' and 'financials tracking.'

Riley says results indicate that business intelligence dashboards are becoming a vital tool for monitoring the daily health of an organization. By consolidating key performance indicators into a dashboard on the desktop, executives are able to monitor and manage their business in real time.

CTI Molecular Imaging Inc., a provider of positron emission tomography equipment, deployed the Noetix Dashboard to gain graphical tools and quick access to existing financial and operational performance indicators directly from their systems.

"With the Noetix Dashboard, operational metrics are updated hourly and graphically display month-to-date, quarter-to-date and year-to-date charts with bookings, units produced, shipments, etc., for many of our business units with the click of a button," said David Gill, senior vice president and CFO, in a release.

The survey also discovered technical constraints that might limit the desire to adopt dashboard solutions.

A 'lack of data warehouse or centralized data' was most frequently cited as a common concern for dashboard users, signifying that many businesses haven't developed the capacity to centralize or consolidate data and metrics.
