Our very cool, visual review we're running on the December pre-beta 2 release of Windows Vista has gotten the attention of a lot of Business Intelligence Pipeline readers, and now we're running an interesting follow-up.Windows XP and 2000 have a lovely, simple tool known as "boot.ini" that controls boot options. It shows up right there on your screen, allowing you to control, among other things, defaults such as which installed OS will upload automatically.

Well, it turns out Microsoft has decided to yank boot.ini from Windows Vista. As Scot Finnie asks in a story running now on Business Intelligence Pipeline, "...why the heck would Microsoft do this? Why make the tool for editing the file as arcane as DOS or Linux?"

Is Microsoft taking an obscure page from Linus Torvalds? If so, you'd expect the company to at least take a good page.
