The latest upgrade of Rendezvous targets service-oriented architectures built by financial services companies.
Tibco has upgraded Rendezvous, making the low latency messaging software for service-oriented architectures faster.
While the speed difference with the previous version can be measured in microseconds, Rendezvous 8.0 has enough of a speed boost to please financial institutions, particular companies involved in stock trading. "They always want to squeeze better latency (out of software)," Jeff Kristick, VP of product marketing for Tibco, said. "They're always looking for improvements."
Tibco says it has seven of the top 10 financial services firms, and a total of 2,000 customers worldwide.
Rendezvous is built to optimize the speed of message traffic within an SOA. The latest version improves performance by replacing the daemons typically used in communications between applications with a Tibco module with less overhead, Kristick said. A daemon is a program that typically runs in the background, and handles specific processes.
In addition, Tibco has worked with partners to lower latency further by optimizing Rendezvous for their network infrastructure technology, such as InfiniBand and 10 Gbit Ethernet. Tibco's engineering teams have worked with Cisco and Voltaire, as well as with Novell on the operating system side. Novell distributes Suse Linux.
Pricing for Rendezvous 8.0, which shipped this week, starts at $25,000 per CPU.
