PBwiki's new mobile edition lets employees access collaboration wikis from the iPhone and the BlackBerry.PBwiki, which provides hosted collaboration tools, is announcing a mobile version of the service that lets users access their accounts from the iPhone and BlackBerry. The mobile edition is free for customers using the Professional and Professional Plus editions of PBwiki.
Users who access their account from a mobile phone can view content, search for pages and files, and search within specific files, such as a Word document or PDF. The BlackBerry also supports file downloads from the site. Files can't be downloaded from PBwiki to the iPhone.
Users can comment on existing content, but they can't edit documents or files. PBwiki says the mobile browsers can't support its WYSIWYG editor, though the company is working on it.
The mobile device is a logical extension for collaboration tools, particularly given today's fractured work environment, where contributors may be on the road more than in an office. With the digital tether of the iPhone or BlackBerry, road warriors can satisfy the urge to check in on a project, make comments, and keep the ball rolling.
