Nikon has introduced a new version of its projector camera, adding features applicable as much to business users and consumers. The CoolPix S1100pj was one of two point-and-shoot camera unveiled Tuesday. Nikon touted the quick start-up time and other performance features of the second camera, the CoolPix S5100.

The S1100pj has enough business related features to make it useful in the conference room, as well as the beach. The camera's built-in projector has a brightness rating of 14 lumens, which means it can project a picture slideshow or video up to 7 feet away, according to Nikon. Images can be projected from the camera's internal memory or external memory card.

In addition, the camera has a USB-in port that enables the user to project presentation, video or slideshows from a Mac or Windows PC. Another helpful feature for businesspeople is the ability to use the camera's 3-inch LCD touch screen to write a draw on projected images.

As a camera, the 14-megapixel S1100pj includes a 5x wide-angle zoom lens and 17 scene modes that automatically configures the camera for a variety of lighting conditions, as well as whether the subject is moving. The camera also can record and playback video at a resolution of 720p.

The S1100pj replaces last year's S1000pj, which was a 12-megapixel camera with a built-in projector that had a brightness rating of 10 lumens. The latest product is scheduled to be available in September for a manufacturer suggested retail price of $349.95. Color choices include black, violet, green and silver.

The CoolPix S5100 is a 12-megapixel camera that can record high-definition 720p video at 30 frames per second. The camera has quick start-up time and a short shutter-release time, so the camera is ready quickly to take a picture. Like the S1100pj, the S5100 has a 5x zoom lens and a image stabilization system that automatically sets the camera for motion.

The S51000 is scheduled to be available in October for a MSRP of $179.95. Available colors include black, pink, purple and blue.
