I don't know about you but many times I walk into the supermarket and have no idea what I want to buy so I wind up eating way too many hamburgers. I've recently found two iPhone applications that can help with creating a wide range of tasty recipes.Kraft Foods launched their iPhone application last December. The application is named the iFood Assistant and provides 7,000 recipes. Each recipe has a video demonstration, shopping list and the ability to comment on each recipe. If you turn the phone to the horizontal view, the recipes switch to index card mode and show you one step in the process on each "card".

The iPhone application also has a store locator and a snack finder.

iFood Assistant costs 99 cents -- not sure why Kraft would charge for the application. I'd rather see Kraft offer a free application that pushes coupons for Kraft products which can be scanned via the iPhone at the supermarket checkout.

Look and Taste released their iPhone recipe application earlier this month. They offer a free and paid version available for $2.99. The lite version is limited to 20 video recipes while the paid version has the full 400 recipe set.

The Look and Taste application includes video recipes which include ingredient lists and text directions in addition to the videos. They refresh the application weekly with a new batch of featured recipes so you aren't stuck making the same grilled chicken with lemon pepper.

The Look and Taste team calls the application a "dynamic cookbook".

What I like about both applications is that they include videos for each recipe. It'd be interesting to take the video a step further and create a way that the person cooking the food can "page" the video as they are cooking without having to touch the iPhone. Now you have no excuse for dry meatloaf or mac 'n cheese every night!
