Today Lenovo announced its first real effort at a smartphone, the Lephone. The Lephone will run Android, and will launch starting in China later this year. No word on if it will be renamed for the U.S. market.Lenovo didn't share too much information about this device, but here are the basics.

The Lephone is a slab-style touch phone that runs a heavily-customized version of the Android platform. It includes Twitter and Facebook integration. It has a 3.7-inch, 480x800 pixel display and a second touch area on the front of the device for on-screen navigation. The Lephone has a rounded and sleek appearance, and lacks any buttons on the front of the device.

Other known stats include a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, two cameras (one of which is 3 megapixels), compatibility with 3G networks and a 3.5mm stereo headset jack.

The Lephone will go on sale in China either late in the first quarter or early in the second. Pricing wasn't disclosed.
