Accenture on Tuesday plans to introduce a software platform designed to make it easier for the company and its clients to manage, build, and roll out large-scale Web-services deployments.

The Accenture Web Services Platform is a set of reusable software components and services for the entire development cycle. The technology is designed for companies that need to manage and deploy projects across multiple geographical regions, subsidiaries, and partner companies.

The platform was built with Avanade Inc. and is based on Microsoft .Net. It includes Visual Studio .Net and uses ACA.Net, Avanade's application architecture built to work with .Net.

Accenture plans a version that will work with Java 2 Enterprise Edition technology in the next 12 to 18 months.

The platform has three main components:

• A Web-services library, which is a GUI-based directory of certified Web services building blocks from multiple sources, including Accenture, to let developers build applications more quickly by reusing existing components.

• A hosted development environment, providing software infrastructure and methodologies for rapid application development and testing that project members can use from any location around the world.

• Web-service certification utilities, to help ensure that applications are compliant with accepted industry-standard protocols, including XML; Simple Object Access Protocol; and Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration.
