Acer unveiled Monday an Intel Core i7-powered 11.6-inch laptop and introduced its latest 3D notebook.

The ultraportable Aspire TimelineX 1830T-68U118 runs a 1.46 GHz Core i7 680UM, which is one of Intel's high-end ultra-low-voltage processors. The chip is not typically available in such a compact laptop, but Acer has managed to pack it in while keeping the weight down to 3.09 pounds.

Other features include an 11.6-inch LED-backlit high-definition display, which makes the laptop an easy fit for book bags or backpacks. The systems full measurements are 11.22 inches wide, 8.03 inches deep and 1 to 1.10 inches thick. The laptop includes integrated Bluetooth, 4 GB of DDR3 memory and up to a 500 GB hard drive. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $900.

The TimelineX 1830T is also available in other configurations, such as with a less powerful Core i3 or Core i5 ULV processor. These systems are available with the same amount of system memory and storage. The MSRP starts at $600.

The new 3D model is the Aspire AS5745DG, which features a 120Hz LCD that the company claims delivers a "full-resolution 3D experience." The laptop's high-definition widescreen display is 15.6 inches and requires the special glasses people typically have to wear to watch 3D content. The new system also plays 2D content.

The AS5745DG runs an Intel Core i5 processor and Nvidia's GeForce GT 420M graphics card, which provides the horsepower for 3D content. Other features include a HDMI port for connecting to a TV, four USB 2.0 ports, built-in Wi-Fi and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. The laptop is scheduled to be available in late October at a MSRP of $1,000.

Acer, a maker of low-priced PCs, was the second largest computer maker in the world in the second quarter in terms of shipments, according to Gartner. Global PC sales in the quarter rose 20.7% from the same period a year ago to 82.9 million units.
