Responding to frustrated customers looking for a better way to design graphics and share files, software maker Adobe Systems Inc. has added collaboration tools to the latest version of GoLive, its Web authoring software.

GoLive 6.0 includes a workgroup server that helps Web producers and art designers collaborate on projects in both print and online media. The server makes it easier to manage image files by alerting users when a particular file is in use. In addition, smart object variables let designers or producers make changes to the background color or text of an image without overwriting the original version or someone else's changes, says Diana Helander, senior product marketing manager for Adobe.

GoLive 6.0's new dynamic content server supports Active Server Page, Java Server Page, and PHP Hypertext Preprocessor scripting languages, which are used to create dynamic Web pages. The upgraded software also supports XML content, enabling Web developers to move content from print to online mediums. In addition, its support for Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language technology let content developers create streaming media for wireless devices. The wireless authoring tool and mobile browser emulators from Nokia Corp. and Access make it possible for developers to preview and layout mobile content within the application, Helander says.

GoLive 6.0 is available in the United States and Canada for $399. Registered users of GoLive can upgrade for $99. When bundled with LiveMotion 2.0, Adobe's upgraded Web animation software, the price is $449. Adobe Photoshop 7.0 image-editing software will ship in the second quarter on all platforms and will retail for around $600.
