Airbus Industrie of North America deploys Vastera software to speed shipping.
Airbus Industrie of North America, a division of the French aircraft manufacturer, is deploying international trade-compliance software from Vastera Inc. to speed the international shipping of airplane parts and other supplies to its operations around the world. Charlie Fletcher, VP of IT for Airbus, says the faster it gets a part to its international destination, the faster the airplane manufacturer's customer can get its aircraft back in service.
One snag in quick shipments of parts from one country to another has been difficulty complying with government regulations at each destination, especially since aircraft parts have potential military uses that are highly regulated. Fletcher says Vastera's TradeSphere, which is used to calculate fees and tariffs and generate required documentation for governments worldwide, will help them make faster deliveries. The companies signed a three-year deal, the value of which wasn't disclosed. The software will be deployed at Airbus by the end of August.
