Time Warner's AOL is buying 2-year-old Sphere, a San Francisco-based company whose search technology allows Web publishers to beef up their Web pages with links to articles, blog posts and other related content."AOL is doing what great, sustainable business do every so often --? they?re reinventing themselves," Sphere CEO Tony Conrad wrote in his blog. As the business model of the oldest and one of the biggest Internet businesses evolves, Sphere becomes an important piece of their strategy to reach across and engage the Web."

Terms of the deal, which aims to get AOL in front of more users, weren't revealed, but sources have put the pact in the $25 million range. Sphere will become part of AOL's programming division, headed by Bill Wilson.TechCrunch, CNET
