AOL Releases App Suite In BetaAOL Releases App Suite In Beta
Users can invoke the features of one application from within another; the software also uses the same password and security functions throughout.
America Online Inc. on Thursday released in beta for AOL members an integrated suite of applications that include email, a Web browser and instant messaging.
The AOL Suite beta combines AOL Mail, Explorer and Triton, which are also available as separate applications. The integration is meant to provide a more unified approach by enabling users to invoke capabilities of one application from within another. Applications in the suite also share the same password and security features.
Triton is AOL's new communication client that launched out of beta last month. The service is an overhaul of the Dulles,Va., company's instant-messaging service AIM.
The upgrade includes a universal address book that can be used through any of AOL's communication services, including email and Internet telephony.
The AOL Suite is available only to members of AOL's subscription-based dialup or high-speed service.
