"It's amazing how many CIOs are visiting Apple and are interested in the Mac," Apple COO Tim Cook said Tuesday, noting that the old enterprise fixation on standardization is giving way to a focus on creativity. Cook made those and other scintillating comments at a Goldman Sachs investors conference.Cultofmac.com has a great summary of Cook's bullish remarks, and you can read all of it here. But I want to share directly what Cultofmac.com said about the "megatrend" of CIOs becoming very interested in the Mac as businesses begin putting more emphasis on innovation and creativity rather than merely ensuring everyone has a standard if limited contraption:

*The Mac is also making a big splash in business. The Mac is riding a "mega trend" of CIOs allowing employees to choose their own computer. "It's amazing how many CIOs are visiting Apple and are interested in the Mac," Cook says. In the past, CIOs thought standardization was the most important thing, but are now thinking that creativity is key and are letting employees choose what platform to use. "This is an enormous megatrend that's positive for Apple," Cook said. Cook noted that the consumer market is much bigger than enterprise. Enterprise is 10% of the PC market, while consumers is 50%. "Our heart and soul and DNA is in consumer," Cook said. "And now consumers want to use Macs in the enterprise space."

Creativity versus standardization: can you deliver both? Looks like one more significant question to put on the to-do list.
