Today is the 59th day since the iPad went on sale April 3. The device launched internationally on May 28. This morning, Apple announced that it has sold two million of them. That's a lotta iPads.Demand for the Apple iPad seems to be pretty solid. Over one million people across the U.S. bought one, and now, with international sales over the weekend added in (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK), Apple has reached the two million milestone in less than two months.
"Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone."
Apple had pushed back the delivery date for the iPad, delaying the international launch as it struggled to meet demand in the U.S. It went on sale in nine additional countries this weekend and will go on sale in nine more countries in July, with more to follow later this year. Apple has yet to name those additional countries.
Despite the iPad's weaknesses (no Flash, no multitasking), it's appeal is obvious. With two million already sold, Apple is well on its way to fielding another blockbuster.
