Apple has acknowledged, via its support forums, that it is investigating the matter.I have not had any problems with my iPhone 3GS since updating to operating system 3.1, but many have. Users have flooded Apple's support forums with complaints about battery life problems.
Specifically, users report that their iPhones' batteries are drained extremely quickly ever since updating firmware. Many users also report that multiple attempts to restore or reset their iPhones are having no effect on the issue.
In response, AppleCare has reached out directly to some of the users to ask them questions about their experiences. The Apple help desk reps have sent a list of 11 questions to these users, looking to gather more information. Apple is also offering an unsigned application to these users that will profile battery life and performance and then report it back to Apple via iTunes.
The iPhoneBlog polled its users, with 24% of respondents indicating that they were experiencing noticeably worse battery life, with 61% saying battery life was about the same, and 11% saying they had improved battery life.
Remember that a lot of different things affect battery life. There are plenty of ways to maximize battery performance. A few suggestions would include:
Turn off Wi-Fi radio
Turn off Bluetooth radio
Keep display brightness below 50%
Reduce how often the device checks for email
