AT&T just cannot catch a break. Despite, or because of, their exclusivity agreement with Apple on the iPhone, AT&T continues to be dogged by technical issues that frustrate its customers. The latest survey on US based wireless carriers puts AT&T at the top of the list when it comes to dropped calls.AT&T does continue to test as the fastest 3G network but it seems most people aren't so much interested in raw speed so much as coverage and reliability. This is where AT&T doesn't do so well and ChangeWave's March survey shows that Verizon leads customer satisfaction and has the lowest rates of dropped calls with 1.5% of calls dropped in the last three months. Sprint/Nextel came in second with a dropped call rate of 2.4%, followed closely by T-Mobile with a 2.8% dropped call rate. In fourth was AT&T with a 4.5% dropped call rate, three times worse than the first place finisher.
Faster than your iPhone can say "no signal," AT&T came out disputing the ClearWave report.
"The opinions compiled in this survey are dramatically at odds with actual quantitative results derived from millions of calls made during extensive drive-testing of the AT&T mobile broadband network by a highly respected outside firm," spokeswoman Dawn Benton told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The highly respected outside firm that AT&T presumably pays to drive around and make all of those calls claim AT&T's dropped call rate is just 1.7%, a number not materially different from Verizon's rate. Which report do you think is the most accurate?
