Mac-using BlackBerry fans rejoice! In July, Research In Motion announced that it would offer a Mac-compatible version of its BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. The official release is slated for later this month, but the 1.0.0 version has hit the Internet.Until now, BlackBerry users that do their computing with Apple machines have had it tough. Third-party work-arounds have been available to help sync contacts and other data back and forth, but they never came close to matching the seamless usability of the desktop client for Windows machines made by RIM.
This hotly-anticipated software from RIM makes syncing a BlackBerry with an Apple computer a cinch. Some of the supported features will include:
Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
Add/Remove applications
Update your device when new software becomes available
Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption (security is #1 as always…)
Manage multiple devices
The software that became available is still in beta and not the gold release, so install it and use at your own risk. According to CrackBerry.com, there are still a few bugs, but site editor Kevin Michaluk said his install was "alllll good." Other reports I've read said that the Apple version of BBDM works much faster/smoother than the Windows version.
You can snag the software here.
