A man's gun accidentally discharged inside an Ohio restaurant, striking his girlfriend in the leg. Lucky for her that's where she decided to store her BlackBerry Curve, which stopped the bullet and saved her from serious harm.RIM's media relations and marketing team must be loving this story, as it doesn't get any better than this. It appears that in Butler, Ohio, some friends were packing up to leave a Frickers restaurant this past Saturday night.

One of the men had a .32 caliber handgun in his coat pocket. While putting on his coat, the gun accidentally discharged. The bullet tore through his coat and hit his girlfriend. The slug smacked right into the center of her BlackBerry Curve, which stopped the bullet and prevented the woman from receiving more than bruises.

Butler Twp. police Capt. Carl Bush said, "The BlackBerry saved her absolutely. It could have been pretty serious."

The man had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but the permit forbids weapons from being carried onto premises that sell alcohol. He's looking at a charge of possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises. Unfortunately for him, that qualifies as a third-degree felony. He can be slapped with up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. On the bright side of things, his girlfriend is alive and well and able to tell the story.

Sadly, the BlackBerry didn't make it. It was pronounced dead on the scene.
