BMC Software has kick-started its week with news that it intends to buy BladeLogic, whose software automates data center management. The $800 million acquisition will further BMC's vision of Business Service Management, which, through software automation, helps drive cost and complexity out of IT operations, according to a Gartner analyst. Fast-growing BladeLogic, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., went public last summer. By the fall, some speculated it would make a good candidate for takeover by a larger software provider given its healthy balance sheet.

The deal is expected to close in early 2009.BusinessWire
