Home PC users can now join scientists, doctors, and tech companies to seek a treatment for anthrax. The Anthrax Research Project is making available for download a screensaver that exploits the power of idle computers to help fight the often-lethal disease.

The program uses a PC's spare processing cycles to perform pattern matching in search of a drug that will bond with the anthrax toxin. Colin Evans, director of distributed systems for project member Intel, says the combined power of many PCs makes such research much more manageable. For more, visit www.intel.com/cure.
