Steve Case, the AOL co-founder who convinced millions of Americans to sign up for Internet service, now wants Americans to share a car and, as a sign of his commitment, Case has poured millions in Flexcar, the car-sharing company.

Case's new business venture, Revolution LLC, announced Tuesday that it has upped its investment in Flexcar, which operates car-sharing programs in seven metropolitan areas. Revolution Living, an operating unit of Revolution LLC, said it has increased its investment stake to 85 percent from 55 percent.

The company provides rental cars that Flexcar members can rent for $7.30 to $10 an hour. The price includes gas and insurance charges.

"With gas prices sky-high, the hassles and expense of car ownership in urban areas increasing every day, and a growing desire to have a more environmentally-friendly way to get around, the time is right for us to fuel Flexcar's expansion," said Michael Crooke, Revolution Living's CEO, in a statement.
