Broadcom caught another crest of the Bluetooth wave on Tuesday with an announcement that its BLINK software release will provide users with an intuitive GUI that simplifies connecting cell phone handsets with PCs. The firm also said its Blutonium Bluetooth technology has been included in new headsets that facilitate transition between streaming stereo music and phone calls.

Broadcom said the BLINK software gives users a graphical picture of their cell phones on their PC screens, enabling users to operate phone functions from their computers. For instance, users can drag and drop items to their cell phones from their PCs with BLINK. The firm said several networking retailers and Bluetooth dongle makers are adopting the enabling software.

BLINK also enables users to synchronize calendars, and exchange phone numbers between their PCs and cell phones as well as surf the Web on their cell phones through GPRS/EDGE/CDMA data links. In addition, photos, music, data, and SMS messages can be transfered between cell phones and PCs.

Broadcom said Korea’s second largest cell phone maker, LG Innotek Co. Ltd., will include Broadcom’s Blutonium technology in its BTR-1000 headset with its new LP3900 cell phone.

The Broadcom announcement comes as Bluetooth continues to see high adoption rates thoughout the industry.
