Shared storage vendor Buffalo has introduced the LinkStation Mini, a terabyte-capacity network-attached server (NAS) at a size and price that should be attractive to small businesses. At $699, the LinkStation Mini measures only 1.57 x 3.22 x 5.31 inches and weighs 1.1 pounds. It contains two 5400 rpm 2.5-inch hard drives, which can be configured as RAID 0 for speed or RAID 1 for data protection (in which case capacity drops by half). It has a Gigabit Ethernet port for networking and a USB port that can accept yet another drive, and supports SMB, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, and Appletalk networking protocols. It can also act as a media server to both Macs and PCs.

Takayuki Nishioka, Buffalo's CEO, said, "Businesses and consumers alike are seeking space saving solutions with the same level of performance and features as standard-sized NAS devices." The LinkStation Mini is set to go on sale in the U.S. in May.The Register, EnterpriseIT Planet
