Coremetrics Inc., a services firm that analyzes Web-site performance, has acquired privately held WebCriteria Inc., a provider of hosted software for testing site effectiveness. The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.

As Web sites offer more functionality, it's critical to do scenario testing--simulating user experiences as they navigate through Web pages. WebCriteria's SiteAnalyst hosted services let companies test their sites according to how a customer would use it for, say, customer support or to open a new account. Most site-testing tools examine individual pages rather than the processes the Web site provides. SiteAnalyst also recommends improvements.

Coremetrics is already selling SiteAnalyst, and is also integrating it with site-visitor profiles that Coremetrics assembles using customer and clickstream data collected by its Marketforce hosted application. That integration work will be completed in about a month, according to the companies.
