Computer Associates CEO Sanjay Kumar said last week that CA is the subject of a preliminary inquiry by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Attorney's Office. This appears to contradict previous company denials that its accounting practices were being questioned by the SEC. Investors have voiced concerns that CA changed its reporting practices to inflate revenue. A company spokeswoman says CA denies there was anything illegal in how the company recorded debt or recognized revenue.
