This is interesting. We've been hit every year or so with a study stating that cell phones increase brain cancer or other maladies in the brain. Now, a new study shows that Alzheimer's may be held at bay by the use of cell phones.The study comes from the University of Florida. They genetically engineered mice to develop Alzheimer's. They then bombarded the mice with electromagnetic waves similar to what your typical cell phone generates and compared the affected mice's performance against healthy mice in a series of memory and thought tests. The researchers had expected the radiation to adversely affect the ill mice, but that wasn't the case. Those mice actually performed just as well as the control group.

The big win here is of course that there may be some noninvasive treatments for this debilitating disease. It is still to early to know how this will affect humans. While the treatment aspects of this study could be a huge benefit to treating the disease, I'll be curious to know if the routine use of cell phones could actually act as a preventative to getting the disease in the first place.

The article notes that there have been other treatments that worked well in mice that had little or no effect on human trials. Let's hope this one is different and a step towards finding a cure.
