Today at CES Samsung introduced a pico projector. The device will connect to mobile phones and allow users to project video content onto any nearby surface.Samsung's MBP200 is all about sharing. As more and more video content becomes available to cell phones, having the ability to share that content without forcing everyone to huddle around a 2-inch screen is a problem that desperately needed to be addressed (rolls eyes).

The MBP200 from Samsung will take content created by or stored on a mobile phone -- including video, PDF, and image files -- and project it onto flat surfaces. (Please refrain from projecting onto the nearest bald head.) According to Samsung, it supports sizes up to about 50 inches, which is the size of many of today's HDTVs.

It uses Texas Instruments' DLP technology to connect to mobile phones and laptops.

Samsung says in the press release, "In addition, users can easily transfer files and project content independent of an attached source via the microSD card slot. The MBP200 has a simple shape and design with touchpad controls on the right side of the device for easy navigation and a 2.2-inch QVGA LCD screen which allow users to view content privately."

I don't see much point in having the 2.2-inch on-board display, as many of today's mobile phones have screens surpassing that in size.

Still, being able to project content from mobile phones can be a great business tool. With the ability to view PDF and Microsoft Office documents, you can leave that heavy projector in the office next time you need to go on the road and make some pitches.
