Chrysler is borrowing technology from its sister company, Mercedes-Benz, to benefit cell-phone users. The U.S. unit of DaimlerChrysler AG says it will offer vehicle technology that will let drivers operate cell phones through voice recognition. The system, which will work with any mobile phone, is based on Mercedes-Benz's Tele Aid Telematics technology. The Chrysler system will be available to customers next year and will be offered in new cars as a factory-installed option in early 2003.
