Cingular said Tuesday that it has started directly selling an updated Motorola Windows Mobile smartphone with built-in Bluetooth support.

The MPx220 is a follow-on to the MPx200 released last year. Starting about a month ago, it was only available through Best Buy, but it was widely reported that the electronics chain took the device off the shelves until Motorola performed software upgrades to solve problems reported by users, including volume that wasn't loud enough.

The upgraded device comes with Bluetooth support, a built-in 1.2 megapixel camera and a Mini SD slot for adding storage.

The company said the MPx220 will be available in the U.S. only via Cingular Wireless. The device will cost $299 with a two year contract from Cingular and $349 with a one-year contract. Besides a voice plan, users must purchase a data plan from Cingular. Those plans start at $29.99 for 5MB of data per month or $39.99 for unlimited data access.
