Extending its involvement in one of the IT industry's hottest markets, Cisco has formed a cloud-computing joint venture with a large European telecom firm doing businesses in 20 countries across Europe and Asia. Through the "Business Class Cloud Services" joint venture, TeliaSonera and Cisco will sell a range of solutions including virtual conferencing services which allow users to access web meetings through mobile handsets, share documents and replay conferences on demand, the companies said. . . .

TeliaSonera and Cisco will initially offer cloud-based conferencing and services to integrate video, telephony, chat and file sharing, and plan to expand the cooperation with more offerings further on, [TeliaSonera's head of Business Services Sverker] Hannervall said.

TeliaSonera and Cisco have collaborated on some projects in the past, and two of TeliaSonera's capabilities appealed to Cisco in the formation of this cloud-computing venture: the telecom company's reach across 20 established as well as emerging markets in Europe and Asia, and its technological leadership, exemplified by its claim to being the first operator in the world to launch a commercial 4G network.
