Debate over cell-phone radiation is, well, radiating from a forthcoming line of shielded pants for Europe. After Levi Strauss unveiled men's Dockers with a lined pocket that the company says will repel cell rays, critics accused it of exploiting unfounded fears. Levi's stance is that it's just filling consumer demand.

But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says there's no evidence linking cell phones to health problems. Instead, says an agency expert, such a "shield" might increase radiation levels as a phone boosts its signal to overcome the obstruction.
