COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — D-Link Systems Inc. is the latest global manufacturer to add an Ethernet-over-powerline product to its home networking suite.

D-Link is basing its new adapter on a chip set from DS2 (Valencia, Spain) using a media-access control and transceiver combination that meets Universal Powerline Alliance specs for achieving 200-Mbit/s speeds over power lines.

The D-Link adapter is available as a single-computer adapter, and as the DHP-301 kit with two adapters and two cables. It is intended to link an existing Ethernet router to an Ethernet-ready consumer devices requiring high bandwidth such as HDTV, game console or digital video recorder.

Brian Larsen, associate vice president of D-Link Systems, said the powerline product is intended to augment D-Link's existing home networking systems as a means of bringing Ethernet networking to home media subsystems.
