Wow. WOW. A rumor nearly three years in the making has finally been confirmed today. Dell, PC maker, is bringing a smartphone to the U.S., and it will run Android.Today, the Wall Street Journal confirmed with people familiar with Dell's plans that the company intends to launch a smartphone running Google's Android operating system by 2010 on AT&T's network.

Dell and AT&T spokespeople declined to comment on the matter, but the Wall Street Journal has a pretty good track record with this sort of thing. I'm inclined to believe it.

The Journal reports, "The phone, like Apple Inc.'s iPhone, has a touch screen instead of a keypad as well as a tiny camera, these people said. Dell's AT&T phone is similar to a device Dell showed in China in August, but has some different features."

Now we play the waiting game. Let's see how long it takes for Dell and AT&T to fully confirm the story.
