Continuing on its quest to cater to the small- and midsize-business market, Dell has launched a Web store for software aimed at that specific sector.Just two weeks ago, Dell reorganized itself into three business units: one for government, one for large enterprises, and one for small and midsize businesses. CEO Michael Dell said at the time, "Customer requirements are increasingly being defined by how they use technology rather than where they use it."
Now Dell continues to pander to small and midsize customers' needs by opening a store where they can purchase and download business software.
The Dell Download Store features software categorized by function and brand and either downloadable or licensed.
While downloading software isn't anything new, said Geoff Surkamer, general manager of global digital distribution at Dell in an article on vnunet.com, "adding the volume software licensing capability for SMB customers is a big win."
And in an era when going green can be good for PR as well as good for finances, Dell pointed out that shopping at its Download Store can save small and midsize businesses cash "through discounted prices and reduce waste through buying and downloading software that would otherwise need to be packaged and shipped."
